On this day we must consciously think of the true meaning of Memorial Day.
This should be one day that we put political differences aside and all join in honoring our service men and women, past and present.
As you meet with family and friends, attend picnics and parades, remember all the sacrifices that others have made to preserve the freedoms you enjoy. When you see the many red, white, and blue decorations and small flags displayed; remember the generations of our military that have given so much for that flag and what it represents.
Following is from a Memorial Day address by Ronald Reagan in 1983:
May 26, 1983
“Memorial Day is a time to take stock of the present, reflect on the past, and renew our commitment to the future of America.
Today, as in the past, there are problems that must be solved and challenges that must be met. We can tackle them with our full strength and creativity only because we are free to work them out in our own way. We owe this freedom of choice and action to those men and women in uniform who have served this nation and its interests in time of need. In particular, we are forever indebted to those who have given their lives that we might be free.
I don’t have to tell you how fragile this precious gift of freedom is. Every time we hear, watch, or read the news, we are reminded that liberty is a rare commodity in this world.
This Memorial Day of 1983, we honor those brave Americans who died in the service of their country. I think an ancient scholar put it well when he wrote: “Let us now praise famous men . . . All these were honored in their generation, and were the glory of their times. Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore.” As a tribute to their sacrifice, let us renew our resolve to remain strong enough to deter aggression, wise enough to preserve and protect our freedom, and thoughtful enough to promote lasting peace throughout the world.”
Ronald Reagan
Please visit the ‘Honor Our Military‘ page whenever you visit KSM, but especially on this day. This page is a permanent feature on KSM, because without their service we would not maintain our right to freely speak out on our government and the issues of the day.
As you explore the ‘Honor Our Military’ page please comment on any improvements or additions to the page. I am always looking for more videos, pictures, stories, or support groups to add to the list.
The Blogivist server was down for an extended time over the last several weeks. The problem was caused by an invasion of thousands of automated blogs that were created on blogivists and caused a system overload and crash of the server. We are now back in operation and hopefully on the road to returning much of the functionality and many features included in the original design of the Blogivist system.
Complain all you want, but you can not effect change without taking action and demanding to be heard. Without action and support you are indicating that you accept the current direction. Your silence and inaction are a vote for yet higher taxes, greater deficits, and an accumulation of debt that will burden our Country for generations to come. An hour of your time is not too much of a sacrifice. Strength is in numbers and dedication, so make an appointment to attend your local Tax Day Tea party!
Blogivists.com, the host of ‘Know So Much’, is in the process of bringing some major changes to their system. During this transition many of the features and content of ‘Know So Much’ will not be available. Many of the plugins had to be disabled to permit all the changes that are coming.
Some video links are temporarily disabled
The audio and podcast of the Founding Documents and some posts are not currently available
I am confident that after the Blogivist upgrades are complete that we will return with all of the past features and many more.
Parents instinctively understand it. Dog owners routinely practice the strategy. Our own human experience teaches us that an approach of reward and punishment will consistently produce desirable results. If you want to encourage good behavior, you must reward it.
John McCain has a history of opposing the conservative base. Too often, we could expect him to reach across the aisle rather than offer his hand to a conservative colleague. We have reacted by reserving enthusiastic support for his presidential bid. I have been very critical of John McCain in the past, and will continue to differ on many issues. In January I wrote a very critical article outlining my differences. Please read Know John McCain. Read the rest of this entry »
John McCain will be in Dayton, Ohio on August 29th for a large rally that is expected to draw over 10,000 people. The campaign is touting this as a major event leading into the convention, and there is much speculation that he will use this appearance to introduce his Vice Presidential nominee.
One name that was mentioned often in VP rumors early on was that of former U.S. Budget Director and former Congressman from Ohio, Rob Portman.Portman’s name has faded into the background lately while recent theories are forwarded of a liberal choice such as Ridge or Lieberman. It is my belief, and my hope, that these are chaff sent out by the campaign to throw the opposition and the media off track. After the wide media attention of these rumors, the forwarding of a true conservative selection could energize the party base that has been yearning for a reason to support the Republican ticket.
Rob Portman is the type of running mate that would really catch on with the conservative voters. He has solid credentials and experience, and complements McCain in the area of budget and economics that is McCain’s weak suit.Portman is a dedicated family man that has a squeaky clean personal history and reputation. He is strong pro life and is a fiscal conservative. He has built his career and reputation on a strong pro growth and pro business philosophy.
The only drawback that I can think of for Rob Portman is political only, in that the left will try to brand him as a “Bush” man because of his service as U.S. Trade Representative and then as Budget Director under President Bush. I really do not view this as a negative, because the left will always demonize their opposition no matter who it is.We cannot let the left influence our decisions.
It is my sincere hope that this major rally is being held in Dayton, Ohio to introduce Ohio’s own Rob Portman as the VP nominee of the Republican Party. If this is the case, I will finally have the incentive to put my “John McCain 2008” bumper sticker right next to my “Fred ‘08” sticker.
You can find some more information about Rob Portman and his views by visiting Ohio’s Future P.A.C., at http://ohiosfuture.com/ .This is a PAC that was formed under the direction of Rob Portman, and on which he now serves as the honorary chair. The goal of the PAC is to support and promote pro growth conservative candidates throughout the state of Ohio, and work towards solving the economic challenges facing the State. This link provides a little background info on Congressman Portman.http://ohiosfuture.com/leadership.htm
‘Know So Much’ is in the early stages of development. The site was created on June 23, 2008, and I am trying to get some areas up and running in the next couple weeks. You are welcome to visit during the development stage, and offer any suggestions before I put on the final coat of paint. If you take a look at the ‘Organization – Site Map,’ you will get a pretty good idea of what is planned for ‘KSM.’
Construction will continue steadily through the next month, and I hope to have some meaningful content up very soon.
Construction Progress:
Support and Honor Our Military – This was the first page I wanted to get up, and there is considerable content available already
Founding Documents – This is the foundation on which our country was built, so it will be the next area that I will develop. In order to recognize the significance of the many issues before us, we must strive to know and understand these founding documents. It is also important to appreciate the circumstances of the time, and to study these documents from the perspective of the founding fathers and the critical times in which they lived.
Please stop back often to see what ‘Know So Much’ is all about.
